“Second chance” is an EVS project that will bring to Craiova, Romania 6 volunteers from Turkey, Jordan, Italy and Georgia for a period of 9 months with the aim of raising awareness about the problems that youngsters from Juvenil Detention Center are facing regarding the post social inclusion and to implement activities in order to reduce the gap between them and the other youngsters from the community.
The activities foreseen, all in the frame of non-formal education, are structured in 2 major cathegories:
- Activities developed inside the Juvenil Detention Center:
a) Artistic workshops
b) Sport activities
c) Journalistic activities – Radio/ TV
- Activities in Craiova community:
a) Awareness campaigns
b) Art exhibition
c) Website development – jurnalistic activities
d) Public meetings with decision makers.
The project objectives are:
1. Development among the 6 EVS volunteers throughout the internship to facilitate basic or administrative skills, inclusive of non-formal activities for young people in prison.
2. Increasing during the duration of the stage, the awareness of social reintegration phases of 25 young inmates at the Juvenile Penitentiary Craiova.
The EVS volunteers will carry out the following tasks which form the basis of a structured plan of non-formal learning:
A. Activities inside the Juvenile Penitentiary Craiova:
1. Workshops divided according to the skills and needs of the volunteers and of the youngsters from the Penitentiary, under the supervision of the Educational Department of the Penitentiary.
* Wire art workshop
* Fretwork workshop
* Glass painting workshop
* Forum theatre workshops applied for real situation from the exterior environment of the Penitentiary
2. Sport activities with the youngsters from the Penitentiary, under the supervision of the sport instructor of the institution
* Organize and develop 2 football teams
* Organize championships and training plan
3. Managing the internal TV channel with intern transmission of the Penitentiary
* Recruit youngsters that will work in the TV channel
* Establish the working plan for the new grid of programs
* Shoot some educative interviews and reportages
* Organize promotional activities of the TV grid
B. Activities outside the Juvenile Penitentiary Craiova:
1. Public activities – organize events
* Identify between young people from the Penitentiary the ones that are allowed to practice activities outside the institution
* Organize events like: exhibitions of the materials realized during the workshops inside the Penitentiary; Organize shows with the situations practiced during the Forum Theatre workshops, Organize football championships between young people from the Penitentiary and local high schools, Launch in a festive setting the documentary of the project.
2. Manage the web site of the project:
* Permanent update of the web site
* Promote the web site and Facebook accounts of the project
* Manage personal blogs with the EVS experience
* Keep the “Volunteer’s diary”
